On August 6, 2011 the BDPS team investigated Sloce Home located in Tazewell, Virginia. I would like to take this moment to thank Christi Sloce, for giving us permission to investigate such an amazing site. We decided because of the size of the home that two teams could investigate without contaminating any evidence and without interfering with each other’s investigation, while one team could monitor the cameras without interference. Two teams would investigate separate areas of the home simultaneously while one team would watch the camera monitors at our base from the outside porch. We started our investigation around 6:00 p.m. with a walking tour of the home that was given by Christy Sloce. We started our set up around 7:00 p.m. We then proceeded to our investigation soon after dividing into teams. Team 1 consisted of me and Kim Long, Team 2 consisted of Mike Brown and Heather Lamantia, Team 3 consisted of Matt O’Quin and Michele Crigger, and Team 4 consisted of Dave Horn and Tabatha Horn. One team was placed to investigate the inside of the home, with one team investigating the basement and surrounding property, and one team monitoring our cameras back at base. Each team worked on a rotation changing their location about every 2 hours and changing their team partners. We finished our investigation around 3:00 a.m. the following morning. This was a great experience and very helpful in our constant training.

BLACK DIAMOND PARANORMAL SOCIETY

CASE# 031

SLOCE, CHRISTI

On August 6, 2011 Black Diamond Paranormal Society (B.D.P.S.) investigated the home of Christi Sloce in Tazewell VA.  (Still need to insert address)  The Sloce home has been a family owned home and property since 1926.  For almost a century this property has been occupied by Nidiffers, Davis and Altizers.

There are no known historical attachments to this property.  What is particularly interesting to note is that the North Tazewell Land Corp originally owned this property through means of a government land grant.  The following is a chronological line of transference:

  • North Tazewell Land Corporation1916 transferred to Perry AND transferred to Nidiffer (initial confusion in the deed and mapping of lot numbers 41, 42 & 43 lead to later map and deed mistakes in transference)

  • A.C. Davis & Altha Davis purchased lot #42 July 28th, 1926 from R.C. Nidiffer and Ollie.D. Nidiffer

  • A.C. Davis purchased lot #41 from J. N. Harman on January 20th 1921

  • C.E. Altizer (Great Grandfather) & Viola Bryant Altizer (Great Great Grandmother) purchased on July 11, 1946

  • Viola Bryant Altizer devised said property to Thelma Pruett (Great Grandmother) December 29, 1980.

  • Property currently listed under ‘DEED’

Upon investigation, we realized that the original plans of the home were altered in the basement area.  The basement has a wall that is not situated on the blueprints.  This is a new addition as it is made with cinderblocks vs. the original, local material, of sandstone and limestone that has restricted access to the rest of the basement.

Upon speaking with neighbors and Christi, the reality that this house was used as a family and neighborhood ‘funeral parlor’ is very probable.  Christi confirmed that she recalled a family member’s viewing in this house.  Her neighbor Evelyn Graham also confirmed that this was the neighborhood parlor where she also recalled viewings within the home and added “…it wasn’t uncommon to bring the dead back home and sit up with them back then.”

There is no significant written historical documentation of the home, however all homes have a history.  This one surrounds a family over the course of the past century and I am positive for those who have been there, lived there or simply were celebrated one last time, all have a special history of their own to remember.

Personal Experiences:

Black Diamond Paranormal /Society Case #31 Sloce Home/August 6, 2011

Personal Experiences of Heather Lamantia

First Round of investigation I did with Mike Brown.

The first experience occurred in the kitchen; I heard what sounded like music. Mike said he also heard the musical sound. We later debunked this as wind chimes outside the house.

The second experience occurred on the stairway leading to the second floor. Mike was standing on the landing taking pictures of the top portion of the stairs. I heard a GROWL. I asked Mike if he had heard the sound. He confirmed he had also heard it, and it sounded to him like a growl as well. It sounded as if it came from in between us, as I was about two steps behind him on the stairway. No temperature fluctuations or EMF hits occurred.

The third experience I had was in the main bedroom at the top of the stairs. I was sitting on the right side (if you are facing the bed from the stairs) and Mike was behind me on the left side. We were doing some EVP work when I felt a pressure on my chest that, kind of like something heavy was on my chest. The feeling went away and just a moment later the bed on my side shook, it even shook me. It felt as if something had kicked the bed or sat down on it really hard. I saw no evidence of an impression on the comforter as if someone was sitting there. I asked Mike if he had moved. He said no, he was sitting still. I asked if he felt the bed shake. He said he had not felt anything on his side of the bed. There were no temperature fluctuations, no spikes on EMF detector.

The fourth experience was what sounded like a knock coming from the stairway. Could not say for sure that it was not something hitting the outside of the house and the sound resonated inside. I then thought I heard a breathing sound, but I believe it may have come from the crickets that were quite loud outside.

Second Round of Investigation with Michele and Tabitha

I really had no significant experiences in this investigation. There were some EMF spikes in the upstairs main bedroom, and the downstairs bedroom. We were able to debunk these as being caused by our walkie-talkie.

The kitchen was the only other place I experienced anything. I, Michele and Tabitha all heard what sounded like a high-pitched music coming from the ceiling light, maybe like the sitar music the client described. We were able to determine that this may have been a result of the refrigerator when it is running. We felt strongly that the running refrigerator was causing a vibration, and that vibration was causing the glass light fixture to vibrate and make a sound that could be mistaken as music.

These are my experiences from the Sloce Home investigation on August 6, 2011. They are true and accurate as I recall the events.    Heather Lamantia

PERSONAL EXPERIENCES: Dave Horn

I was doing initial K2 sweep through the house and had a huge burst on a picture in the first bedroom (main room on 2nd level) next to the bed on the cedar chest. Could not duplicate any K2 activity after that

Shadows in the boy's bedroom crossing the doorway as if something the size of a very small dog or a cat was walking back and forth between boy's room and Christi's room.

3 dimensional physical ball of light appeared, floated and dissipated right next to my head in the main living room right in front of the IR camera

Other than that I had no 'paranormal' experiences.

Evidence

Photo evidence: No photographic evidence.

Video evidence: No video evidence.

Note:  BDPS does not support the idea of orbs as evidence of the paranormal because most orbs can be explained away as dust, bugs, rain, mist, fog, etc. There are cases that the orbs we photograph seem to move with some type of intelligent intent. We post these photos because we feel that there needs to be more investigation into the Orb Phenomenon and we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss this phenomenon without further investigation and explanation. So we show these photos in an attempt to add another piece to the puzzle and leave this decision up to you to accept or dismiss orbs as evidence. It is also my opinion to show all evidence so we all can learn from what might be an area of the paranormal that may be getting over looked by researchers.

CONCLUSION

We have come to the conclusion that the Sloce Home has low paranormal activity in the form of EVP’s, and personal experiences that helped us to determine our conclusion.

I look forward to our next investigation. If anyone would like for us to do a paranormal investigation of their home, business, church, property or a family cemetery please contact us. If you would just like to speak with us about any paranormal activity you may be having we would love to hear from you. No problem is too small. We would be honored to help and we do not charge for our services. Contact BDPS to set up a time and place for us to discuss your paranormal questions and or problems.

I feel honored to be working with such a great team. Without the team’s hard work and professionalism BDPS would not be what it has become today.
